Nigel Houghton

Nigel is responsible for the Long-Term Archive of data from European Union Copernicus Sentinel Earth Observation satellites at European Space Agency at ESRIN in Italy,
He has worked in the data processing and data storage industry for over 30 years. Over that time, he has seen massive changes in the approach to storage from magnetic tapes to the now preferred online storage in bespoke or remote storage in data centres that offers fast access to the data.
He is also coordinating the reduction of the environmental footprint for all environmental sustainability activities within his group and is looking forward to developments that will allow a more exact measurement and assessment of the environmental footprint of Data Centres that can be reflected in the industrial contracts placed.
