Market-leading product innovation for data centres as Kohler Uninterruptible Power launches new model in the MF series at DCW London – the KOHLER MF 2000DPA-CSB
Launching live on the KOHLER stand D520, KUP's new product, the KOHLER MF Series DPA-CSB will be displayed on the stand for the very first time in the UK.
The CSB designation refers to a pioneering, removeable, dual-feed Centralised Static Bypass featuring patented load balancing technology. This enables the market leading 97.4% VFI energy efficiency and compact footprint of the KOHLER MF Series to be maintained, while built-in redundancy ensures the resilience of the decentralised parallel architecture (DPA) modules is also retained.
This innovative product has been developed in response to three key market and technology trends: the imperative for data centres to reduce carbon footprint and running costs; the trend towards increased power density, driving UPS providers to offer more capacity in smaller physical footprints; and the desire for scalable, higher resilience modular formats capable of supporting larger and dual-feed loads.
Offering flexible, scalable power of 1500 – 4500kW, the CSB variant uses hot-swappable 250kW modules like the rest of the MF Series, though it also adds a hot-swappable centralised bypass switch. This in itself uses unique parallel matrix technology to provide load balancing and redundancy.
The slide-in design of the modules and CSB greatly speeds installation and maintenance whilst also significantly reducing physical footprint. Compatible with a range of battery technologies including VRLA, lithium-ion and nickel-zinc, the MF Series also allows users to choose a battery system that matches their load, budget and facility size.
Environmental benefits
The new model represents an environmental gain, compared to other products in its class, as it has a higher maximum energy efficiency of 97.4%.
This means less electrical energy is lost and less heat is given out, in turn reducing electrical consumption on cooling. The KOHLER MF 2000DPA-CSB also features longer life consumables, reducing footprint in terms of waste, and Xtra VFI mode, which puts unnecessary modules into standby mode – reducing both energy use and wear.
Additionally, the KOHLER MF 2000DPA-CSB has optional electrical grid interaction functionality, supporting the adoption of renewable energy sources into the national power infrastructure.
David Renton, Managing Director of Kohler Uninterruptible Power, says: “We are excited about the opportunities the KOHLER MF 2000DPA-CSB offers customers. Its VFI Efficiency up to 97.4% through advanced design and components means at 23p/kWh, savings equate to c£230k at 2MW over a 15-year period versus the next best efficiency competitor at 97.0%, which is a massive benefit for data centre operators – and the environment.”
