Developing diversity in the global data centre community and why it matters
There is a critical skills shortage in the data centre industry, and if it doesn't change soon, it will only get worse.
Only 10% of the over two million people employed in the global data centre industry are women.
It goes without saying that this places a significant limit on the number of people who might be qualified to work in the industry.
This is troubling because it appears that women have fewer opportunities in a growing and lucrative industry. When viewed through the lens of a critical labour shortage, it becomes an even bigger issue. The pool of talent that is currently available would be even larger if the employment base were more inclusive, and this would help alleviate the current labour shortage by providing skilled and talented workers.
