We are in the midst of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where we are seeing a blurring of the boundaries between the physical, digital, and biological worlds. Data today is what steam was to the first Industrial Revolution of 1760-1840. Data, along with the centres where the data lives, has become an integral part of our daily lives. The data centres themselves have been rather misunderstood. These buildings are sometimes thought of as secretive and austere grey “boxes” that add little to the communities they reside in despite the economic benefits they provide.
