What others say about Data Centre World

Will cloud computing kill off the in-house data centre?

The answer to this question that’s been on everyone’s mind is a resounding no.  Data Centre World asked this question of the industry and, surprisingly, only 29% thought that Cloud Computing threatens the future of the in-house data centre.

Fifty seven percent of the respondents were currently using the cloud mainly for storage but also for applications and disaster recovery.  However the problem seems to lie in the perceived security risk of using the Cloud.  There still seems to be anxiety surrounding the issue of security whilst using the Cloud with nearly 75% of the survey indicating that this was a major concern.

In fact this seemed to be the main reason why organisations were resisting the use of the cloud.  A few respondents mentioned that the keeping of data at someone else’s site was a major turn off, especially if the data they themselves kept belonged to their clients.

Data Centre World is the biggest free to attend event in the UK dedicated to data centre professionals and the conference sessions will cover this all important topic which is currently giving concern to the industry.  Speakers on this issue and others concerning the Cloud and virtualization include Peder Ulander from Cloud.com, Gareth Kitson from AppSense, Mark Swanston, Infrastructure Operations Services Manager at Glasshouse and Owen Garrett from Zeus.

Data Centre World takes place on 2 and 3 March at Olympia and comprises a conference of nearly 50 sessions and an exhibition of over 100 leading technology suppliers.  Data centre and server room professionals wishing to benefit from this free to attend conference should register to attend at www.datacentreworld.com to secure their place and to receive updates as and when the conference programme takes shape.
