What others say about Data Centre World

Cool-Therm to promote Saifor high efficiency cooling alongside new Turbomiser Breeze chiller

Cool-Therm to promote Saifor high efficiency cooling alongside new Turbomiser Breeze chiller

Cool-Therm (stand E22) was recently appointed a UK distributor for Saifor, the leading data centre cooling and technology company based in Spain.

It is now supplying Saifor’s full range, which includes data centre racks, in-row coolers, hot and cold aisle containment, intelligent Power Distribution Units and monitoring systems.

Energy efficiency is a key design priority for Saifor, and systems are equipped with EC fans and the latest inverter technology.

Cool-Therm reports significant interest from major clients in the UK looking for high efficiency cooling solutions for new data centre projects.

Saifor’s hot and cold aisle containment solution can be equipped with transparent overhead panels to enable full lighting with access doors at each end of the aisle that open and close automatically. The high-tech systems can be fitted with fingerprint recognition entry for extra security.

Aisle containment is seen as a more efficient approach than conventional up-flow/down-flow cooling systems, as cooling is applied directly to the heat source rather than the entire data centre environment.

A further recent innovation from Saifor is quick-release ceiling panels that are immediately activated in the event of fire, to ensure roof-mounted fire suppressant systems have full access to server racks.

Saifor is also a leader in modular raised floor systems, which on bespoke projects can have floor void heights of up to 2m, giving engineers full height access beneath server floors. This enables cabling and pipework to be run, repaired and maintained without disturbing data centre operation.

Target markets for the new Saifor products include telecoms companies, air traffic control specialists, hospitals, national and local government, road traffic control organisations, the military, universities, banks and financial trading companies.

Ken Strong, managing director of Cool-Therm, says: “The addition of Saifor complements our existing range of award-winning ultra-efficient Turbomiser chillers perfectly. It means we now have a comprehensive range of high quality, low carbon solutions to offer the data centre market, with chillers and Saifor solutions dovetailing. We believe it is a winning combination.”

Turbomiser is a multi-award winning chiller based on the Turbocor oil-free centrifugal compressor. Field tests have proven it can cut energy use by up to 60 per cent compared with traditional screw and reciprocating chillers.

On the new technology front, to meet growing demand from data centre operators to harness fresh air for cooling, Cool-Therm has developed Turbomiser ‘Breeze’.

The weather-proof, packaged unit delivers controllable volumes of fresh air to cold aisle containment systems, harnessing natural cooling when ambient conditions allow.

Modulating dampers provide air at the right temperature to meet cooling needs in the majority of ambient temperatures met with in the UK.

When the temperature of outside air is too high to meet the data centre’s cooling requirement, the Breeze unit turns on the high efficiency oil-free magnetic bearing compressor in a condensing unit circuit to provide DX cooling of the air.

The original Turbomiser chiller is now in use in more than 100 projects across the UK, by high profile clients including Colt Telecom, Skandia, Hilton Hotels and the Ministry of Defence (MoD). A recent Turbomiser installation at a Colt data centre in London is saving the company 55 per cent on its cooling power costs.
