Data Centre World VisitorThe growth of DDoS attacks - and burgeoning threat to the data centre
Register free to attend this session
For years, enterprises have seen DDoS attacks as a nuisance, something that could and should be handled be their Internet Service Provider.
As attacks grew larger and larger, exceeding 100gbps in 2010, managed services offering clean pipes to enterprises have grown in popularity. This makes a great deal of sense when talking about large volumetric attacks. In 2010 however, we saw a dramatic shift in DDoS, moving away from large attacks, to smaller, harder to detect attacks that target the very infrastructure of the data centre itself. With the rise of “hacktivism” and inexpensive opt-in DDoS tools, enterprise data centres are under attack like never before.
They are finding, in the hardest way possible, that existing security infrastructure is not able to protect data centre assets from application-layer DDoS attacks, and this has led to some very high profile takedowns of Fortune 500 companies. This success has led, naturally, to more attacks against targets data centres because they are perceived by hackers as vulnerable.
Who should attend this session?
Data centre managers
What will delegates learn from this session?
Darren will advise data centre managers on how they can go about creating a layered defence solution, which is necessary to address both volumetric and application-layer DDoS attacks
Why is this issue of interest to delegates?
DDoS poses a significant threat to the enterprise by causing significant outages, increased operational expenditures (OPEX), customer churn and revenue loss
