What others say about Data Centre World

Overcoming the challenge of virtual blindness

Register free to attend this session

The introduction of cloud computing and virtualisation in both small and large data centres has introduced another level of complexity for IT and facility managers alike. Server loads and thereby also power and cooling requirements in this environment are unpredictable, due to the dynamic nature of a cloud enabled or virtualised data centre. The balance between providing secure and sufficient power and cooling, while trying to save on the energy bill, is an ever-changing task. IT and facility managers are used to change in the data centre - but historically at the hardware level. The effect of hardware change can be readily predicted and is fairly stable. The virtual world brings with it a space that is continually changing. In essence chaos where there was stability. This talk will address the challenges that IT organizations are facing in understanding the impact of virtualisation on the underlying physical infrastructure and outline the tangible benefits of a properly implemented DCIM suite.

Speaker: Colin Richardson

Job title: Managing Director

Company: on365

Colin Richardson, on365, Managing Director. Formed on365 (known as Universal Power Systems until November 2007) in 1984 to meet the growing user demand for UPSs to be supplied with higher levels of pre and post-sales support. Starting with just two employees, the first year turnover exceeded 100K and has steadily grown to over 10M since then. When asked to explain the companys current success, Colin says: The long-term commitment to customers and the integrity of our staff has set us apart from other suppliers. We have always taken a longer term view of the needs of customers rather than cutting corners to make a short term profit.

Speaker: Soeren Juul Schroeder

Job title: Software Sales Director, SA + Med

Company: Schneider Electric

In his current role Soeren Juul Schroeder is responsible for building a network of strategic DCIM/DCFM partners across EMEA. With his year long experience and profound knowledge of his customers' unique challenges - both strategical as well as operational - it is Schroeder's vision to empower his partners to take an active role in defining the future of the industry.

Over the course of his career with APC and Schneider Electric, Schroeder has passionately worked with some of the worlds largest Data Centers on bridging the strength of IT with the strategic direction of the business, leading him into a wide variety of roles and responsibilities. He also has a background with IBM working on large-scale WebSphere implementations in Northern Europe.

Schroeder holds a B.S. in Software Engineering.
