Data Centre World VisitorCloudbusting: what impact does designing for cloud computing have on the data centre

This presentation will cover practical advice on how best to design data centres to support more efficient cloud computing and virtualisation deployments.
Gone are the days when data centres could be split into different areas where high-profile applications got the biggest machines and most attention on the power and cooling front. With virtualisation, virtual machines can move seamlessly around the data centre, while cloud computing makes it even harder to link the physical IT to what work is being done.
Instead, data centre design has to cover the whole environment. While this makes consolidation and cost effectiveness of the data centre paramount, the physical design of the data centre is still the most critical element in these projects being successful. Cloud computing also changes the mindset for supporting data centre assets speed to replace individual units and ease of support become critical, compared to fixing the asset that might have broken.
David Palmer-Stevens of Panduit will go through what changes in data centre design are being employed in order to make these projects efficient, as well as where new technology choices like desktop virtualisation are also affecting data centre choices.
